How does a wake shaper work?

A wake shaper is an external wakesurf device that attaches to the opposite side of your hull as the surfer and diverts the water flow to improve the wave. Wake shapers disrupt the water behind the boat, creating turbulence that changes the flow of water around the boat and cleans up the wave on the other side of the boat. Simply put, a wake shaper makes the wave higher, cleaner, and more fun.

How fast can you go with a wake shaper?

Wake shapers, or wakesurf devices, work at normal wakesurfing speeds of around 10-13mph.

What is the best wake shaper?

Can you use a wake shaper without ballast?

Wake surfing without ballast is possible but it's like listening to football on the radio while your friends have tickets to the game. You can do it with the right number/weight passengers, with the right board and rider combination. An experienced rider on a big ol' board might be able to surf the wake, but beginners will struggle without ballast weight. Let's just agree that the experience could be better.

Where do you put a wake shaper on a boat?

The wake shaper should always be attached to the opposite side of the boat as the wakesurfer. Most people surf on the left side of the wake (left from the surfer's perspective). Goofy foot (left-handed people who stand with their right foot forward) will need the wake shaper on the opposite side. The wakesurfing device is placed slightly below the waterline (fully submerged). Try it out and then play with the distance from the back of the boat to dial in the wave to your preferred length and height.
