How to Repair a Wakesurf Board

How to Fix a Wakesurf Board Ding

Let's face it, accidents happen. Whether you dropped your board in transit or bricked it on the water, a ding is a major bummer. The good news is that it's a pretty easy repair without any specialty tools.

What you'll need:

  • Epoxy Ding Repair (we like Solarez)
  • Fine and a Coarse Grit Sandpaper
  • Box cutter
  • Putty knife
  • Optional: plastic wrap, painter's tape, nail polish or paint

Steps to Fix Your Board's Ding

1. Clean up around the edge of the ding. Use your box cutter to get rid of any kind of soft or mushy fiberglass.

2. Polish around the edges. With your sandpaper, polish around the ding create a nice even surface for the epoxy to adhere to.

3. Apply epoxy. Smooth a coat around the core of the board covering the entire damaged area. Use your putty knife to apply the epoxy evenly.

4. Optional: cover with plastic film. If you have plastic film or wrap handy, cover the area to aid in the curing process.

5. Place your board in the sun. UV rays help the epoxy to cure to water-tight protection.

6. Sand away any uneven expoxy. Be sure to smooth out imperfections or bubbled areas.

7. Optional: apply touch-up paint. If you have a matching paint or nail polish color, you can apply it as the final step to getting your board to nearly-new condition.

Best of luck with the board repairs. See you on the water!

Solarez also has a UV flashlight in case you don’t have nice sunny days.
Also make sure you get the right formula for your boards core material.
